Why do children and adults of all ages love Chantraine?

A series of interviews with Françoise Chantraine resulted in this unique book. It tells of the origins of Chantraine Dance in Françoise’s childhood, her meeting with Alain Chantraine, whom she married, and their great collaboration in the creation of their approach to dance and life. It also describes the role of performance in the life of the Chantraine School of Dance.

“I’m not trying to persuade anybody. The dance speaks for me.”

How can I talk about Chantraine dance?

Many people have difficulty answering this question! In her creation of this beautifully illustrated book, Pauline Pézerat (a French Chantraine teacher) responds to questions asked by children. Her explanations and illustrations invite everyone into Françoise Chantraine’s artistic world – a world which extends far beyond dance alone.

“Alain and Françoise used to dream about …a dance made of poetry and gestures which draw in space … A dance which helps people flourish … A dance for everyone.”

The English translation was published in the UK in 2021 at a cost of £6 plus postage.

Chantraine Dance has always included other arts, especially music and poetry…

Alain Chantraine (1929-2000), co-founder of the Chantraine School, wrote poetry among his many other talents. This collection of some of his works (in French and in English) was produced by Patricia Woodall (1930- 2019) as part of a celebration of his life and work, “Harvest of Joy”.

“… There are few words
to speak of Hope
except perhaps
Spring | Summer | Autumn | Winter … “

Published in the UK in 2001. The English translation is now available at a cost of £6 plus postage.
